After the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, ceramic artist Ayumi Horie immediately wanted to help. With the help of Ai Kanazawa Cheung and Kathryn Pombriant Manzella, she mobilized the Handmade for Japan initiative. Artists around the world responded to the call to donate handmade pieces for an online auction that took place March 24-27. All the money raised went to GlobalGiving's Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. On March 28, the project announced that the auction raised a grand total of $75,757.55.
