Sacmi: Solutions for Ceramic Mosaics (posted 8/25/09)

In addition to excellent output performance, other key plant characteristics include better energy efficiency and the containment of costs.

The mosaic solution is the product of an industrial and commercial partnership established some time ago between three companies: Sacmi Kemac, Emec and Lema. The companies recently released a mosaic ceramic production line that can make “micro-sizes,” such as 18 x 18 mm or 11 x 51 mm, as well as larger sizes up to the 50 x 50 mm or 75 x 75 mm. This plant can also produce trims and small batches of 100 x 100 mm tile.

Lema contributes to the line with the pressing department. The HPL 503 Lema presses feature a high level of advanced technology and top-quality components. This is also true for the special die-sets installed on the press. Emec offers the latest solutions dedicated to the production of small sizes throughout the handling, assembly, sorting and end-of-line packaging stages. Emec supplies all the “connections” between the various stages of production, from in-die powder placement to transfer units and mosaic handling systems. The rest of the plant is made by Sacmi Kemac, and its know-how is seen in the drying, decoration and firing departments.

In addition to excellent output performance, other key plant characteristics include better energy efficiency and the containment of economic and logistics costs. The line can guarantee high production output and exceptional product quality while minimizing energy and manpower costs. For this reason, the solution offered by Sacmi Kemac-in synergy with Emec and Lema-is an official part of Sacmi’s H.E.R.O project, a set of technological energy-saving solutions that can be applied to every stage of the production process.

This is the first proposal within the H.E.R.O. project specifically conceived by Sacmi for the field of ceramic mosaics. The proposal is enhanced by the added value of an industrial and business collaboration with Emec and Lema, offering an additional guarantee of the quality of these plants that have been specifically designed with the production and commercial requirements of the ceramic mosaic sector in mind. To date, three mosaic plants have been completed according to this philosophy; they have been supplied to three separate firms in Spain, Russia and Turkey.
