The official groundbreaking for the Seattle Center's highly-anticipated Chihuly exhibit took place last month. The comprehensive "Chihuly Garden and Glass" exhibition is scheduled to open in the spring of 2012 and will feature many of the artist's popular glass installations. Elements of the exhibition will include a 12,000-sq-ft indoor pavilion with a cafe and lecture hall, a glass house with five chandeliers and an outdoor garden with additional artwork.
Because the exhibition is privately funded, it will pose no cost to the city of Seattle. In fact, the Chihuly exhibit has already partnered with several local non-profit organizations in order to help promote arts education and engagement in the area.
