Stahl's Fall Pottery Festival

A traditional Pennsylvania German pottery style will be celebrated at the annual fall festival.

A historic pottery will be hosting its third annual Fall Pottery Festival this Saturday, Oct. 2 in Powder Valley, Pa. The festival is organized by Stahl's Pottery Preservation Society and will feature tours of the sheds and kilns that were used at the site in the 1930s. More than 30 potters will be displaying their work, and hands-on demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day.

Stahl's Pottery is historically important because Charles Stahl began producing the redware pottery style (so named for its unusual color) in the 1850s, and his sons learned the trade from him. They ran the pottery and produced both decorative and functional redware pieces until 1956. The rural pottery tradition has been revived in recent years by the Stahl's Pottery Preservation Society, and a museum exhibit spotlighting redware pottery and artifacts will be open for perusal this weekend.

The festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is $3 per person and children under 18 are free. For more information, visit www.stahlspottery.org.
