- THE MAGAZINE
It was in this same spirit early last year that the CI staff began discussions regarding a redesign of the magazine. A little updating was in order, and the possibilities were exciting. Brainstorming ensued, ideas flew and I'm happy to report that there were no brawls. Beginning in this issue, you'll notice a more modern look that incorporates additional color and graphics. We constantly strive to provide you with informative editorial in an appealing, easy-to-read format, and this new format delivers. Many thanks to Cory Emery, our art director, for an outstanding job. We're thrilled with the new design, and I look forward to hearing your comments.
The New Year also brings new content. The January issue marks the debut of Resource Management, a special supplement/section designed to help manufacturers navigate issues ranging from energy, pollution and employee management to firing and transportation efficiencies to recycling and lean practices. This month's installment features information on energy recovery in tile production and a success story regarding improvements in particulate emissions control, as well as details on recent efforts by the U.S. Advanced Ceramics Association to refine its strategy. And don't miss this month's Online Exclusive-"Shedding Light on Energy Price Trends and their Drivers"-which offers insight for energy buyers facing challenging decisions. Look for future installments of Resource Management in the June and October issues.
Also new for '07 is an article series called Ceramic Innovations. These articles will highlight new and unique ways in which ceramics and other materials are used (look for Glass Innovations and Brick Innovations articles in future issues), not only in our industry but in other arenas as well. The first Ceramic Innovations article details how one company is expanding to produce components that will be used in waste containment systems for spent fuel rods generated by nuclear power plants.
Ceramic Industry is your #1 source for purchasing and reference guides for the ceramic and related industries, and we're building on that foundation with two new resources in 2007. The February issue will feature our new R&D Directory, a quick-scan chart that will enable you to easily source a broad range of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. And our December issue will feature the Services Directory and Business Guide, which will include information to help you select, use and maximize sourcing solutions for services ranging from toll processing and contract consulting to employee recruiting. The issue will also feature a reference chart to help you source service suppliers at a glance.
Of course, we'll continue to bring you the very latest news and information, both in print and online, to help you succeed in your business. Best wishes for a happy and successful 2007!
