Superconductive Components, Inc. recently announced that Dr. Edward R. Funk, Sc.D., founder and chairman of the company, died on December 4, 2002, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. He served as chairman, president and chief executive officer until March 2002, when he hired Daniel Rooney as president and chief executive officer. At the time of his death, Funk was chairman of the board. He was recognized in 1988 as "Entrepreneur of the Year" in Central Ohio. He received his doctorate of science in metallurgy degree in 1951 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then became an assistant professor at the institution. In 1965, he became an assistant professor of welding engineering at The Ohio State University, and he continued in that position for a number of years.
