Tripeny Named Principal Accounting Officer for Corning (posted 4/3/09)

He joined the company in 1985 as corporate accounting manager for Corning Cable Systems and was elected division vice president in 2004.

Corning Inc. recently announced that R. Tony Tripeny, vice president and corporate controller, has been designated by the executive committee of Corning’s board of directors as principal accounting officer, effective immediately. He assumes the role of principal accounting officer from Katherine A. Asbeck, who is retiring from that role.

Tripeny joined the company in 1985 as corporate accounting manager for Corning Cable Systems. He was elected division vice president in 2004 and served as operations controller until 2005, when he was named vice president and corporate controller. In his new role, Tripeny will have responsibility for the company’s external reporting, accounting policies, technical accounting services and internal control. He will oversee the internal audit function and serve as the primary liaison with the company’s external auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Tripeny received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He is a member of the Financial Executives Institute and the Institute of Management Accounting.
