Delbert Day, Ph.D., Curators' Professor emeritus of ceramic engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR), has been elected into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Day's work with glass has resulted in a variety of inventions, from "glasphalt" for roads to an innovative approach to fight liver cancer using microscopic, irradiated glass beads. Election into the NAE is one of the highest professional distinctions in the field of engineering. A 1958 graduate of the university, Day is the eighth UMR graduate to be elected into the academy and the first member of the UMR faculty to receive the award.

UMR's website is located at http://www.umr.edu.
