MoreTo meet the needs of its growing business in China, Union Process established a joint venture company in China called Qingdao Union Process Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. To accommodate the need for more manufacturing space as its business grew, Qingdao Union Process recently purchased an existing complex in the downtown area of Qingdao, China, which had been formerly owned by a large machine tool manufacturer.
The compound consists of one structure for manufacturing (approximately 11,000 square feet) and an adjoining structure (approximately 6000 square feet) that houses the lab testing, pilot plant, and storage area and office space on an upper level. The complex also includes additional storage facilities and a gatehouse.
“We are very pleased to have a larger, centrally located Chinese manufacturing facility to accommodate our Chinese customers,” said Arno Szegvari, Ph.D., president of Union Process. “In a short time, we have already enjoyed strong growth, thanks in part to our new plant.”
Szegvari founded Union Process in Akron, Ohio, in 1946. Today, the Akron facility houses the company’s corporate headquarters, U.S. manufacturing, R&D, a testing lab and an extensive pilot plant.
