Union Process: Mill Conversion Kit (posted 4/13/09)

The new conversion kit includes an upper discharge chamber, a grid plate assembly, an impeller and an agitator shaft/arm assembly.

Union Process, Inc. recently announced that it has produced a special version of its 1-S laboratory mill that allows it to convert from a batch mill to a circulation mill. For companies that already own the 1-S Attritor from Union Process, a conversion kit assembly is available that allows the customer to retrofit the batch-type mill to a circulation-type mill.

For certain applications, circulation grinding is preferred because it utilizes a high pumping rate, which results in narrow particle size distribution and good temperature control. Additional advantages of circulation milling include larger batch sizes using a smaller mill, which provides savings in grinding media since less media is required, and easy formulation adjustments and sampling.

The conversion kit includes an upper discharge chamber, a grid plate assembly, an impeller and an agitator shaft/arm assembly. As with all circulation attritors, a pump and separate holding tank are required.

“The 1-S to circulation conversion kit brings added versatility to the 1-S Series Attritors,” said Emery Li, sales manager. “It is not meant as a replacement to the Q-Series Circulation Attritors. However, it is an ideal solution for companies who already have 1-S Attritors who may be interested in exploring the advantages of circulation milling.”
