Voluntary reporting by the fuel cell industry showed consistent sales from 2003 to 2004, with steady increases in research and development expenditures, according to the second Worldwide Fuel Cell Industry Survey conducted by the US Fuel Cell Council (USFCC). Employment held steady. The survey -- with responses from member companies of the USFCC, Fuel Cells Canada, Fuel Cell Europe and the Fuel Cell Commercialization Conference of Japan -- reports on key indicators of industry performance to provide the most comprehensive picture of the global industry to date. "Variations in the number of companies reporting data make year-to-year comparisons inexact," said Robert Rose, USFCC executive director. "Nevertheless, the report presents a positive overall picture of an industry that is finding initial markets as it pursues aggressive research agendas. Rising utility prices and increased environmental awareness are providing additional drivers and greater focus on fuel cells."
