Warren/Amplex Upgrades Particle Sizing Capabilities

Warren/Amplex Superabrasives recently improved its particle sizing capabilities in an effort to satisfy the demand for diamond abrasive products in finer and increasingly defined particle sizes.

Warren/Amplex Superabrasives, a manufacturing unit of Saint-Gobain Ceramics and Plastics, Inc., recently improved its particle sizing capabilities in an effort to satisfy the demand for diamond abrasive products in finer and increasingly defined particle sizes. The company upgraded its Horiba LB500 particle size analyzer to the LB550 model, which uses dynamic light scattering to measure the particle size distribution of a range of particles at one time, and is capable of measuring particles in the 0.003- to 6-micron range. The company reports that the sensitivity of the new model has been improved by using a variable aperture, which allows for the use of higher-concentration samples. Replacing the rigid cell holder design has reduced vibration influences, while the signal-to-noise ratio has been improved by introducing a 45-degree incident bean angle to the sample cell.
