Zhang to Head Owens Corning Asia-Pacific Building Materials (posted 3/26/09)

Owens Corning recently announced the appointment of Daniel Zhang to the position of vice president and managing director of the Asia-Pacific Building Materials group, effective immediately. He will be based in Shanghai, China. Owens Corning’s Building Materials group includes insulation, roofing and asphalt, masonry products, and construction services businesses. Currently, Owens Corning operates manufacturing facilities in China, Japan, Korea and India.

Zhang brings nearly two decades of management experience to his new role. As head of the Asia-Pacific Building Materials group, he will drive Owens Corning’s expansion in the region. He will execute strategies that grow the company’s market presence in the building materials industry to better serve its Asian customers. Zhang will also be responsible for ensuring that Owens Corning delivers innovation to its customers to help them prosper in the marketplace.

“I am pleased to have Daniel join our team,” said Karel Czanderna, Building Materials group president. “Asia is a critical component in our mission to expand in the world's fastest-growing emerging markets. Daniel has extensive experience successfully growing global enterprises in Asia. His contributions will be very valuable to us as we continue to strengthen our presence in the Asia-Pacific region and across the globe.”

Before joining Owens Corning, Zhang held various executive management positions at global manufacturing companies. He was most recently president of the Asia-Pacific automotive and international trade groups at Leggett & Platt Inc., where he led the company’s Asia growth strategy. Before that, he served as the executive director of South China Operations at Lear Corp., where he developed and implemented the company’s successful China regional strategy. He has held several other management positions at global companies such as PepsiCo International and Johnson & Johnson.

Zhang received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s of business administration degree in system engineering. He is fluent in both English and Chinese.
