Survey Says!

May 17, 2010
In last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll, we asked if the government’s recent jobs report was a good indicator of an improving economy. Do you agree with the results?

In last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll, we asked if the government’s recent jobs report, which showed employers adding 290,000 jobs in April, was a good indicator of an improving economy. Here’s a breakdown of reader responses:
  • no, it’s just a move in the right direction: 43.4%
  • no, the unemployment rate is more critical: 23.3%
  • yes: 23.3%
  • no, new jobs is no longer a key indicator: 10.0%
Comments included:

“Lack of political and popular will to address huge underlying issues will continue to drag our economy downwards.”

“The unemployment remained at its current high rate only because more people (who were previously discouraged) are looking for jobs and are thus again counted as unemployed. More good news is that manufacturing jobs increased significantly.”

“Since most of the new jobs are government jobs, it is no help. We need growth in the private sector.”
