Survey Says!

April 5, 2010
Last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll focused on the best and the worst of the new health care bill. Our readers certainly have strong opinions about this legislation. What are your thoughts?

Last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll focused on the best and the worst of the new health care bill. Respondents believe that the best part of the new health care bill is:
  • Uninsured or underinsured will gain insurance: 47.0%
  • No denial of insurance for children with pre-existing conditions: 41.2%
  • Small business subsidies/tax credits: 5.9%
  • Increase in Medicaid qualification levels: 5.9%
According to survey respondents, the worst part of the new bill is:
  • Prohibitive fees/taxes: 45%
  • Mandatory insurance/penalties for not offering or having insurance: 40%
  • Higher cost of premiums: 15%
Comments included:

“The best part of Obama Care is the hope that it will wake up this once great Christian, capitalistic nation to the threat of becoming a secular, socialist failure.”

“The current U.S. health care system (prior to passage of the bill) is among the worst in the industrialized world. How can the U.S. describe itself as being the world’s greatest country, when we have among the highest infant mortality rate!! Shameful; shame on all Americans for allowing this type of atrocity to persist for so long! Hopefully, this new bill will solve some aspects of the health care crisis that we have created over the past decades.”

“This health bill was a con job and is not acceptable!”

“This expansion is likely a good thing/move in the right direction, but it was done the wrong way. The more sensible/responsible party should have moved on this first.”

“Worst - government control of health care, no choice of provider, congress is exempt.”

“All I know about the health care overhaul is what I see and hear in the media, which I cannot believe in. I do not believe more people can be afforded health care benefits without it costing more. I don't believe there is a ‘volume discount’ for services.”

“ObamaCare could well be the worst legislation in US history, as it violates every principle of economics, e.g., ‘no free lunch (or medicine!).’ It is even worse than the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, and that is saying a lot!” -- Richard Chinn, national lab employee

“There is nothing good about the health care overhaul! Insurance companies will increase rates 40-50% for the next 3 years and then everyone will have a Cadillac plan and we'll have to pay the excise tax. Great-more taxes...”

“The whole law should be repealed and start over. We are losing our individual freedoms at an alarming rate.” -- Bill Milholen, Basic Machinery Co., Inc.
