According to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average worker today stays at each of his or her jobs for 4.4 years. In last week's CI CyberNews CyberPoll, we asked readers how many jobs they have held during their working lives. Of the total respondents, 48% have had 2-3 full-time jobs in their working lives, while 24% have had more than 5 jobs, and 20% have had 4- 5 jobs. The rest of the respondents (8%) have only had one job during their entire careers.

We also asked readers how long they have been employed full time. Responses were as follows:

More than 20 years: 92%
16-20: 4%
11-15: 4%
1-5: 0%
6-10: 0%

Comments included:

"I'm a dinosaur!"

"Today workers must approach each new job with the mindset that it may be full-time but is, in reality, temporary. Always have an updated resume, never really trust your employer, and always have active contacts with recruiters. Sadly, there is no longer company loyalty from either employer or employee perspective."

"I work for one of the large chemical companies. My generation (30 yrs employed)is the last of the "one company" generations in this company. New personnel hiring in are typically staying 3-5 years, with a few lasting >10 yrs."

"Retired after 43 years, because the company was closed by the parent company, product outsourced from asia. "
