The CPSC has issued another stay of enforcement for the CPSIA, this time for lead standards regarding youth-model ATVs and motorcycles. As previously reported, this isn’t the first time the CPSC has acknowledged, at least tacitly, that the legislation is flawed.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued another stay of enforcement for the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), this time for lead standards regarding youth-model all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and motorcycles. As previously reported (see “One-Year Stay on Testing Requirements Issued for CPSIA”), this isn’t the first time the CPSC has acknowledged, at least tacitly, that the legislation is flawed.

According to Rick Woldenberg, chairman of the Alliance for Children’s Product Safety, “It’s time for Congress to act responsibly and admit their error in passing the CPSIA. This ‘landmark’ legislation implemented a safety system lacking common sense, creates confusion, and results in either economic devastation or massive noncompliance… [The] CPSIA is going to destroy thousands of small businesses unless it is fixed by Congress.” The organization recently held a rally to discuss various CPSIA-related issues. Visit www.amendthecpsia.com for additional details.

It remains to be seen what impact these various stays of enforcement will have on the CPSIA. Has the legislation affected your business? What challenges is it causing for you, and what steps are you taking to address them? Please share your experiences with the CPSIA by entering a comment below.

Firing marrow

Andrea
May 5, 2009
Hi my name is Andrea and I'm from Michigan. I was wondering if you knew about marrow the rock. I was wondering if you knew if it can be fired like ceramics can and specifically at what temperature. I would eventually like to sell some marrow that I have. Do you have any information about this? My email address is godsriver@juno.com. Sincerely, Andrea
