Today is the official first day of spring, and though it’s a little on the chilly side (about 34°F right now), the abundance of sunshine more than makes up for the low temperature. It looks like springtime. The sky is a pure, bright blue. The grass looks greener, the trees are budding, and the first spring bulbs are starting to come up. My neighbor’s crocuses are actually blooming already, and I admire their perky optimism.
I’ve always loved springtime, but this year in particular I find the sure progress of the seasons to be extremely reassuring. Spring represents a triumph over winter’s blahs, as well as new life and endless opportunities. A month ago, it felt like we’d never get warm or see the grass again, but in a “this too shall pass” kind of way spring has sprung and anything seems possible.
