In the last CI CyberNews CyberPoll of 2011, we asked readers if they planned to work during the last week of December. Responses broke down as follows:

  • Yes, our offices are open: 58.3%
  • Yes, I will be working/bringing work home with me: 12.5%
  • No, I intend to relax/spend time with family: 29.2%
Comments included:

“We give our employees the week off with pay. The problem is that if December is busy, they work overtime to get the work out and still get the week off. A nice perk, but it can be expensive.”

“Actually, I took a brief sabbatical time, in order to better follow my daughter, born Oct. 27th. Happy New Year!”

“This is a great week to finish up business and not be interrupted.”

Surprised!

I'm quite surprised that a third of employers offer their staff the week off at the end of the year. Still, if they are willing to work, then it's fair game. It's interesting how certain industries close down for the whole holiday period, whereas others remain open throughout. www.aerotherm.co.uk
