According to a recent poll, full-time workers in the UK who are overweight or obese and suffer from other chronic health conditions miss more than 100 million more work days annually than healthy workers, costing ~ $32 billion in lost productivity each year. In last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll, we asked readers if companies should offer help to improve employees’ health situation to reduce lost productivity costs. Respondents answered yes and no equally (43.8%), while 12.4% were unsure.
“While it is not the company’s responsibility, it certainly is to their benefit to help/encourage employees to be at their best performance.”
“Companies should provide these type of incentives, within reasonable limits. However, when companies enact corporate policies that essentially force workers to adopt a specific lifestyle, etc., that is the point where that company has crossed the line; that type of intrusive corporate policy is simply wrong! Companies need to keep their noses out of employees’ personal and private lives. I, personally, would never work for, nor would I ever recommend, any company that enacts overly intrusive health-related or lifestyle policies.”
