In last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll, we asked if readers agree with Ben Bernanke’s statement that “things have stopped getting worse and are getting a little better” for U.S. small businesses. The responses were fairly evenly split between those who don’t agree (47.6%) and those who do (42.9%). The remainder of respondents (9.5%) indicated that they’re unsure.

Comments included:

“I believe he is not in industrial or manufacturing, his overview is no longer relevant, only politically optimistic. The street, when all is said and done, is the better prognosticator.”

“I just learned that two of the banks with which I do business are on the government watch list of banks in financial trouble. Unemployment is still way too high, gasoline prices are escalating, property values are falling and foreclosures are rising. Doesn't sound to me like things have stopped getting worse!! And things are certainly not even a little bit better!!”

“There are a lot of things on the horizon that are yet to have an impact, and I don't see anything helpful to small business. I would like to know how Mr. Bernanke has determined things are getting better. Does he happen to run a small business? Why is it that when the administration tries to do something for business, it is the large corporations that are invited to the party? Never mind, I know the answer.”
