Winners Announced for 2016 Tecnargilla Design Award and IED Lab
The Tecnargilla Design Award ceremony was held recently for the winners of the competition.
The Tecnargilla Design Award ceremony was held recently for the winners of the competition set up by Acimac (the Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machinery and Equipment for Ceramics) and Rimini Fiera. Winners were also announced for the IED Lab Best Innovation Design Project, an initiative born of the historic collaboration between the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan and Acimac.
The fourth edition of the Tecnargilla Design Award, this year centering on the theme of “Light and Shade,” chose the Mutant project from System Group for its response to the five requisites asked for by the jury: aesthetics, versatility, commercial potential, originality and innovative technological content. The event saw the participation of 11 machinery and paint manufacturers: Colorobbia Italia, Digital Design, Emar Impianti, Esmalglass Itaca, Esmaltes, LB Officine Meccaniche, Metco, Sacmi, Sertile, Surfaces, System Group and Torrecid Group. The projects were judged by a jury made up of technical and creative directors of ceramics companies, ceramic tile retailers, designers, and journalists.
Taking first prize in the IED Lab competition was Guglielmo Urso, a student in the master’s in Design Strategy program at the Istituto Europeo di Design–Milan. The project, called E-YE, was deemed forward-looking and versatile: a sound screen that, thanks to active noise cancellation technology, becomes an invisible barrier against noise from outside.
