Out and About with the Ceramic Industry
I'm tired of being cooped up—I want to get out and about!
As I write this column, bundled up against the seemingly unending cold and gazing out on the yet again snow-covered roads, I can’t help but long for spring. This winter has been an odd one, with frigid cold and snow/ice/freezing rain giving way periodically to sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s or even 50s—only to plunge right back down after a day or so. Mother Nature needs to give it a rest already.
In addition to the weather, I love the hustle and bustle that spring brings. I’m tired of being cooped up—I want to get out and about! Working on our trade show coverage for this month’s issue has definitely provided some much-needed light at the end of my snow-filled tunnel. ceramitec, which will be held April 10-13 in Munich, and Ceramics Expo, slated for May 1-3 in Cleveland, will both provide a wealth of activities for the industry. Turn to “Conference @ Ceramics Expo: I Want It All!,” “Ceramics Expo 2018: All Eyes on Cleveland” and “Explore the Ceramic Industry at ceramitec 2018” to learn more.
While the weather can make travel difficult and having personnel in multiple time zones can hamper conference call scheduling, online technologies such as social media platforms are increasingly enabling us to communicate with each other. I recently took the pulse of the worldwide refractories industry by posing a series of questions to the 15,000+ members of our Ceramic Industry group on LinkedIn.
The “Virtual Refractories Roundtable” shares some of the group members’ comments. Do you agree with them? Please share your thoughts by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (248) 786-1704.
