Keijzer Named CEO of Imerys as Michel Seeks Reduced Role
Gilles Michel will be re-elected chairman of the board, separate from the CEO role, while Conrad Keijzer will be appointed CEO and director.
Following the wish expressed by Gilles Michel to devote more time to his close family, the Imerys board of directors’ Appointments Committee, chaired by Paul Desmarais III, has conducted an in-depth review of the group’s leadership and governance. The committee’s recommendations were presented to the board and unanimously approved. In particular, the board has decided to separate the group’s chairman of the board and CEO roles. Subject to approval at the upcoming annual general meeting, the following decisions will be effective May 4, 2018.
The board will re-elect Michel chairman of the board, separate from the CEO role. The entire board of directors expressed its deep gratitude to Michel for his decisive contribution at the helm of Imerys, stressing the breadth and quality of his track record since 2011. The board is reportedly looking forward to continuing to benefit from Michel’s strategic vision and deep operational knowledge in his new role.
Conrad Keijzer will be appointed CEO and director. Keijzer has been selected after a thorough and professional process of evaluation and selection of internal and external candidates. Keijzer will reportedly bring Imerys a wealth of operational and international experience. Throughout his professional career at Akzo Nobel, he held numerous operational leadership positions in several countries. As a member of the group’s executive committee, he was instrumental in expanding its presence in Asia (more than 25% of consolidated sales) and managing the Performance Coatings division (sales of approximately €6 billion [approximately $7.3 billion] in 2016) until 2017.
Marie-Françoise Walbaum and Ulysses Kyriacopoulos will be re-elected as directors. In addition, on the recommendation of the Appointments Committee, the board wished to continue tightening its composition in order to reinforce its agility and efficiency. In this context, the board acknowledged that Giovanna Kampouri Monnas, Katherine Taaffe Richard, Xavier Le Clef and Arnaud Vial have advised that they wish to leave the board on May 4, 2018. The board expressed heartfelt thanks for their valuable contribution during their mandates to the board and its committees.
