Production Essentially Flat for Crude Steel in January 2019
In January 2019, world crude steel production increased by 1% compared to January 2018.
World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 146.7 Mt in January 2019, a 1% increase compared to January 2018. Specific production figures and comparisons to the January 2018 quarter include:
- Brazil—2.9 Mt, up 2.3%
- China*—75.0 Mt, up 4.3%
- France—1.2 Mt, down 9.7%
- India—9.2 Mt, down 1.9%
- Italy—2 Mt, down 3.6%
- Japan—8.1 Mt, down 9.8%
- South Korea—6.2 Mt, down 1.5%
- Spain—1.2 Mt, up 5.9%
- Turkey—2.6 Mt, down 19.5%
- U.S. —7.6 Mt, up 11%
- Ukraine—1.9 Mt, down 4.9%
