Many U.S. schools are already in session. In last week’s poll, we asked if you thought school should start before or after Labor Day.
Readers were split on this issue, half saying “before” and half in favor of “after.”
One respondent commented, “The long summer break is a hangover from when our society was primarily agrarian and children were needed to help in the summer. With the shift in our society and the current child labor laws, I see no reason for a break longer than a few weeks to mark the change in the school year.”
