LIFECERAM, a project led by the Institute of Ceramic Technology in Europe, has developed an urban paving tile made completely from ceramic production waste. The new sustainable process takes scraps, glaze sludge, and kiln filter dust to create a 100% recycled paving tile. The composition of the tile also roughly matches the amount of waste product produced by the manufacturer of other products, which means waste won’t take up valuable plant space while waiting for enough material to make the recycled tiles nor will it leave excess waste of material. The new tile can also be produced on existing facility equipment, meaning the solution is easy to implement.
