According to the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Program (VEEP), the country has room for more energy-saving action. The VEEP reports that the cement industry alone can save up to 50% of total energy consumption, while the ceramic, coal, textile, steel and food processing industries’ potential savings are estimated at 20-35%. In an effort to find energy-saving solutions, the Vietnam Energy Efficiency for Industrial Enterprises project (VEEIE) was created. Of the money funded for the project, $100 million has been budgeted to be spent on developing energy-saving projects for targeted industries, and $1.7 million to be devoted to technical assistance for those projects.
