SACMI: Fast Mold Changeover System

Sacmi’s fast mold changeover system (Cambio Rapido Stampo, CRS) reportedly allows flexibility plus lower labor and floor space requirements. The system can replace the heaviest, bulkiest molds in half an hour with one worker and lower space requirements. Initially showcased at Tecnargilla 2010 for the PH3200 press, it soon extended to all presses in the range with an inter-column clearance of 2,450 mm (PH3800, PH5000XXL, PH6500, PH7500, PH10000).

Design features reportedly provide an effective response to manufacturers’ need to produce limited lots with frequent size changeovers according to “pull” logic, thus minimizing warehouse stock. These technical solutions range from a permanent magnet mold attachment system—and the consequent elimination of all threaded connections between mold and cross-beam—to a new mold heating system that includes more flexible, manageable electrical connections.

The result ensures not just extreme flexibility (mold changeovers now take just half an hour, making it economically viable to produce lots of even just a few hundred square meters), but also user friendliness. It allows users to change heavy, bulky molds safely with just one worker. Space requirements have also been reduced, as fork lift trucks and lifting gear are no longer needed.
