Asahi Glass Co. (AGC) recently announced that it will strengthen its system to supply cover glass for car-mounted displays at its AGC Display Glass Yonezawa Co., Ltd. (ADY) subsidiary to meet strong demand. AGC’s cover glass for car-mounted displays is manufactured by adding several steps to the manufacturing process of Dragontrail, a chemically strengthened glass. Those processes include chemical strengthening treatment, optical thin-film coating, and decorative printing. Using coating and decorative printing technologies, AGC’s cover glass for car-mounted displays reportedly improves the visibility and operability of car-mounted navigation systems and driving information display panels; the glass will be incorporated into more than 30 car models.

AGC is also preparing to mass produce cover glass for car-mounted displays featuring a three-dimensional curved surface and more sophisticated designs. AGC has been producing the cover glass on a dedicated line at ADY since 2013. Anticipating growing demand, AGC is increasing ADY’s production capacity and plans to begin operation of the expanded production facilities this month.
