Spreading the Word on Low-E Glass

I was listening to the radio this morning and was pleasantly surprised to hear a nice feature about the history and energy-saving benefits of low-emissivity (low-e) glass. The story documents the development of low-e glass at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, its eventual commercialization and broad-ranging impact.

Here’s a short excerpt: “All in all, with just a few million dollars, the federal scientists became the midwives of this technology. True, it’s not as sexy as inventing new gizmos to generate clean energy. But the end result is that it has saved consumers literally billions of dollars, according to a study by the National Academy of Sciences.”
